The following is for citizens of Westfield who enjoy walking, jogging, running, biking, rollerblading, or generally just being outdoors on a nice day. With the recent unexpected, but welcome, influx of warmer temperatures, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight the impressive trail system in the city of Westfield. Although I cannot deny the appeal of curling up on the couch in front of the television after a long day at work, I also cannot deny the appeal of being outside on an uncharacteristically warm winter day. For those wanting to take advantage of a beautiful day with the added benefit of a little exercise, why not utilize a vast trail system within city limits?
Although the Monon Trail is one of the more well-known options, it is not the one and only. Others include the Grassy Branch Trail, the Cool Creek Trail, the Midland Trace Trail, and the Natalie Wheeler Trail. Overall, Westfield features a grand total of 85.63 miles of completed trails spread throughout the city. A great resource for those interested in finding out more about the trail system is the Trails Guide featured on the city’s website (see below link). This guide includes the length in miles, location, surface, and major access points for each aforementioned trail. The guide also highlights if certain amenities are available on each trail including benches, restrooms, bike racks, drinking fountains, dog drinking bowls, and dog waste stations. For those individuals who plan to bring a K-9 friend along for the adventure, make sure to check out the guide to see which trails accommodate our beloved furry companions. The Trails Guide is not the only resource available to those interested in finding out more about the trail system. Maps are also provided to outline the location of the trails, bike routes, and places to park.
In conclusion, whether one is looking for an activity to do with the kids or if the art of taking the dog for a walk has become long forgotten, trails are a great resource for exercise and fun. For more information, please visit the following link.
