Keeping Cool in the Summer
The sizzling days of summer are here, and we’re trying to stay cool as a cucumber despite the heat! There are plenty of activities you can do around Westfield this summer so that you can enjoy the weather without overheating. And don’t forget your SPF!
Splash Pad: Open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the Splash Pad at Quaker Park runs from 10 am to 7 pm daily. Enjoy the sprinklers, splash tunnel and other water features on a hot day to beat the heat. While you’re at the Splash Pad, check out the newly designed playground at Quaker Park with the shade oasis for sun relief and enjoy lunch under one of the shelters.
Movies in the Park: Once the sun goes down, it’s time to relax under the stars at Asa Bales Park for Movies in the Park! Starting on July 14th, you can enjoy free movies thanks to NSPIRE Church. The 2017 lineup includes Rogue One, Captain America, Sing, Moana and La La Land. Bring a blanket, chairs, snacks (how about some nice, cold popsicles?) and chilly beverages to cool off after a long day in the summer sun.
Catching Fireflies: Make memories with your family by catching fireflies on a warm summer night. Grab a mason jar and poke some holes in the top. Watch for their blinking lights in your yard and fill your mason jar with fireflies for a summertime nightlight. But don’t forget to treat them gently and release them back into the wild at the end of the evening!
Find the Kona Ice Truck: Our friends at Kona Ice know how to keep you cool in the summer! You can find Kona Ice at many events around Westfield this summer. Create your own shaved ice concoction that tastes great and helps you beat the burn in the summertime!
Picnics in the Park: Grab a basket and fill it with your favorite foods…it’s time to head to the park for a picnic! Use one of the park shelters or bring a blanket and set up in the shade. Make a pitcher of lemonade and don’t forget to pack plenty of ice! After your meal, kick back to read a book or simply relax while the summer breeze cools you off.
Hit the Farmers Market: One of the best parts of summer is the fresh produce you can find at the farmers market! A slice of watermelon on a hot day is what summer is all about. Browse through local vendors, meet your neighbors and enjoy food and drinks that are ripe and ready for you to enjoy.
