The following is a guest blog by Danyele Easterhaus, Executive Director of Student Impact:
In case you have been living under a rock for the past week, I thought I would tell you that Student Impact is, in fact, Raising the Rock! What that means, in real life terms, is that The Rock, our house where the kids hang out each day, is no longer large enough to hold us adequately…we need more space. (See the Current in Westfield’s cover story about our amazing students…http://currentinwestfield.com/2017/raising-the-rock-student-impact-to-hold-capital-campaign-due-to-growth/)
#TMKNES, too many kids, not enough space…in a nutshell, that’s the issue.
So, as we embark on needing more space, we also need to raise at least $500,000 to make that happen. There are still some open questions, like can we build on site and will that be an adequate space or even meet the Grand Junction/Union Street plan, AND if we need to build elsewhere…where is the elsewhere? Land in the walking vicinity of the schools is either not for sale or very expensive…bringing us all right back to the fundraising.
In the first week, the community has come out and shouted YES to Student Impact and has contributed more than $3500! Boom! Bash Boutique and Union Street Flowers and Gifts held a shop and donate event and raised $330 in cash and in kind donations…super stars!!!
The next number of months will be a wild ride in not only continuing to make a difference in kids lives, but raising some cold cash and in kind donations to make a bigger place happen.
It’s been a great almost 18 years…and now it’s time for another AMAZING chapter in Student Impact’s service to Westfield. Come along for the ride…you won’t be disappointed.
